Back on the road

Just thought you'd like to see the final designs for the Prescott Express which starts its Bank Holiday campaign tour this Friday in Liverpool with Eddie Izzard.

It's a 17 seater Ford Transit, so it's a lot smaller than the original coaches we used in 1997, 2001, 2005 which will be a relief because they were always so difficult to park. And thank to the innovation of sat nav, there only needs to be a team of four on the bus - myself, a driver and two people to set with logistics.

The battle bus played a very important role in those elections. Not only did it rally supporters, provide a great photocall opportunity and get Labour heard across the country, it also helped provide significant political intelligence for Campaign HQ back in London.

Obviously the most famous (or should that be infamous) battle bus visit was to the Welsh seaside town of Rhyl. I'd actually thought I'd been stabbed because I felt the impact and liquid going down my neck. Funny how Sky News had a sat truck there.

My good friend Adam Boulton said I would be sacked and ran a red button poll on Sky News asking the public if I should resign. The problem for him, was that they backed me. You can even see the comments from the time here.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to the trip which, as I've said before, we're funding from small donations. Tomorrow I'll tell you how you can follow us online and where we'll be visiting.

And If you can help with a few pounds towards the petrol, please feel free to donate here.
