Go Fourth for Europe and back on the bus

I'm just off to the Young Labour conference in Gillingham with a bit of an announcement.

As the Times hinted at today,  I'm launching a European Election tour that will start 12 years to the day of the 1997 General Election. But I want this to be OUR campaign.

So I'm asking supporters for small donations to help finance the four day tour of the North West and Yorkshire and the Humber that will cover seven counties and 13 towns and cities.

It will start on May 1 in Liverpool with Eddie Izzard, who I actually joined up to Labour back in 1994. (On the form when it asked him whether he was male or female, he ticked both boxes!)

The tour will then visit Warrington, Manchester, Keighley, Leeds, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield, Chesterfield, York, Bridlington and finish in Hull on May 4 - exactly a month before the June 4 European and county elections.

Supporters and voters will be able to follow our progress on the Go Fourth website, as we campaign across the North, via Google Map, twitter, Vlog films and his blog.

We'll send out invites by Facebook and conventional media to join us and talk about politics with the local Labour European candidates at each stop.

I've got to say I'm raring to get back on the bus again but this time as a blogger and so called 'Cyber Warrior.'

We don't want to be a drain on party resources so we're asking people to chip in what they can to help us do the tour.

We want to warm people up for the forthcoming elections because it's vital we continue fighting for social justice and equality and stopping the hate-filled BNP.

So I'll be talking to people on Facebook and face-to-face. Chatting and twittering. It'll be traditional campaigning in a modern setting.

People will be able to sponsor the campaign by donating here (there's donate button at the top of the page or you can click here)

To encourage donations, me, Alastair, Dick Caborn and Glenys Kinnock have signed 100 copies of my autobiography (which I've personally bought) which will be given away to the first 100 donations of £50 or more.

I'll be sending a vlog from conference later to tell you how it went.

Do you think the reason for voter apathy is that professional politicians keep ignoring them?
When do we get the vote on the EU constitution that you promised before the last general election?

Not wishing to dash people's hopes but, considering the final Blackadder Series and the name of this web site - I seem to recall that, in the last episode, "going forth for Europe" met much the same fate as this campaign will.

If we concentrate on the value base which steers the ship then people will understand what the basis for voter decisions are.
One danger is the emphasis on a fourth term in our public speak is that people will see as perhaps the ruling government holding on to power.

It is about laying the foundation of values and restoring virile but relevant deabte.

Good Luck

Resignation of convenience.

Alice had months of agonising to reach her decision when resigning from the Labour party. Mere mortals decided to leave as soon as it became clear what this chap was about.

She should have known in 1997 she was well aware of the Blair pedigree.

She had to wait until her pockets were full though like the rest of them.
