People accuse me of hating that media. And they'd be right.

It never used to be like that. When I was younger, we had great figures in broadcast journalism - Sir Robin Day, Brian Redhead, Brian Walden.

Now we have the likes of Tom Bradby.

I was leading a delegation from China around the House of Commons today. The Speaker had announced his resignation and as can be expected, I was asked for comment from the media.

I'd already politely turned down the BBC and Sky when a young man - he looked a bit inexperienced, I think they call them goafers - interrupted me demanding an interview. I was actually in the middle of explaining to my guests the day's events.

I asked if he was a journalist. He said yes. I told him to ''sod off.''

After returning from a meeting with the delegation, I got back to my office to discover that 'sod off' had somehow been turned into ''Fuck Off you little c***.'' Apparently, Tom Bradby had rang my office to demand an apology, quoting those exact words.

However when my staff said I just wouldn't use that language he admitted that he wouldn't put this goafer up in a witness box to defend it.

But in the meantime someone at ITN had obviously been busy in the lobby because that same false quote was quoted back to my staff from the Sun AND the Evening Standard, who used it in Paul Waugh's blog and in the paper.

Now I have several witnesses who'll back me up on this so I'll be watching ITN very closely tonight to see how Bradby reports this.

And you wonder why I dislike journalists.

Looking at the comments on here I despair. These people have signed up to a site that is trying to get Labour elected for a fourth term. Is that what they actually want? Or do they just want to snipe and criticise?? We're all on the same side, aren't we?

John,
how dreadful suggesting you would use such salty language.
I would sue them if I was you, I really couldn't believe that you would use such language.

So you've been misquoted, like it's never happened before, however more importantly, with your boorish and arrogant behavior you're not much of an ambassador for the Labour party or politicians in general - and you wonder why the public dislike you.

Okay, John, I believe your word over that of a hack.

BUT!!!!! How did you explain to delegation from China why those members of the High Party Cadre - the Govenrment - who fiddled all that money weren't on trial and facing a firing squad????

For God's sake John. Now more than ever we need our politicians to engage with the media and offer the public some kind of reassurance that the country is not going to the dogs. It's not a time to get involved in petty Westminster tit-for-tat arguments; the democratic foundations of this country are being badly shaken at the moment, we need mature debate not name calling. And sure there are some very dodgy journalists out there, but the past week has demonstrated that politicians have even less moral authority. The time has come to embrace meaningful political discussion, not get involved with old style slanging matches. The irony of your comment is that this blog endeavour of yours is also a form of journalism - you are part of the mainstream media, so don't throw too many stones inside the glasshouse.

Well John you should read the truth about the 84/85 Miners Strike in the 'Enemy Within' might help if your friend Neil read it with you. We have known for a long time that POP mans team would turn on you when the time is right. Mr Blair would fit the criteria aptly for enemy within. You lost yourc vision with those rose tinted glasses that salesmen used to wear. Its not Clause 4 you need to worry about but CLAWS 4 now.Ask your friend Dennis he knows you have shit bed now as they used to say down the mine.
