Mission accomplished!

Well we finally completed our Unite4Labour Prescott Express tour of key seats across the country.

We covered 71 seats and travelled 5,000 miles in the back of our Ford Transit van - and let me tell you I felt every pothole and bump!

This was my fourth and last General Election battle bus tour following the ones in 1997, 2001, 2005.

So it was fiting to revisit the first seat I ever visisted on my battle bus in 1997 for Clive Efford - and handy too. Our sat nav managed to pack in just as we approached Eltham so having former London cabbie Clive guide us in was a godsend. You can't beat someone with 'the knowledge.'

They put on a lovely welcoming reception though I got a little mixed up over the number of miles we'd covered. Should have looked behind my back for a reminder!

This was my 71st seat visit -  one for each year of his life and the 5000-mile tour was the equivalent to travelling from John O Groates to Land's End SIX TIMES.

It's been really great to be able to go back to the constituencies I first visited on his battle bus in 1997 and see how Britain got better under Labour, motivate party members and meet the public in walkabouts, house meetings and impromptu soapbox speeches in town centres.

Here I am speaking to voters at the Eltham event.

Armed with my battered 13 year-old pledge card (it's not airburshed I just look more knacked now) I've  been highlighting Labour's successes like the National Minimum Wage, 3,500 Sure Start children's centres, 200 new hospitals and thousands of new schools.

I'm proud the Prescott Express tour was sponsored by the Unite union. In the last four weeks, Unite's Joint General Secretary Derek Simpson and I have held more than 14 rallies and meetings with union members making the case for backing Labour and promoting their virtual phone bank Unite4Labour which allows union members to canvass other union members. It's a great system and has played a significant campaign role already by helping to secure the Glenrothes By-Election victory.

The feeling I've had from countless stump speeches, doorknocking and canvassing is that there's really no overwhelming desire for a Tory government. But there are an awful lot of undecided voters out there.

Getting out our core vote and helping the undecided to make their minds up are the two challenges we face in the last 48 hours.

And if Gordon can make keep making speeches like the one he did last night, we stand an even better chance of bringing people back to Labour.

PS Must show you the cake that Clive's daughter made for our team. Very sweet.
