1. it was custard not acid

2. a trip to the dry cleaners needn't involve the police

3. get used to it, there's lots more eggs and custard where that came from

A cup of custard doesn’t even begin to cover what Peter didn’t deserve.

After being twice disgraced and forced to resign; Peter didn’t deserve a top job in the EU, A huge EU payoff and pension, being made a Lord, or being parachuted back into government as an unelected minister.

The cup of custard will be forgotten in a few weeks. The injustice and undemocratic nature of Lord Peters elevation will not.

This attack, in my opinion, was totally justified and deserved as the only way to get this Government to take any notice. We as an electorate have been lied to, cheated and ripped off by this government that has the audacity to go under the Labour banner. Peter Mandellson is the biggest villain in the piece. To think that i used to be a Labour Party member, protested throughout the 70's and 80's actually cried when we finally got a chance at government only to see it washed down the drain by total incompetence. Socialists, your having a laugh!

I don't agree with him being slimed like that but I can see why and as Andrew says, what other way has Joe Public got of saying "we are fed up with not being listened to".

What about the guy peacefully protesting near Parliament about the Iraq War? Oh yes, you BANNED that.

Prezza you are a hypocrite of the first order. If it was the other way round and a Tory had been slimed bet you'd be on telly with that stupid grin saying "no, shouldn't have done it but I can see why"

Take yourself out of your Champagne Socialist Slippers and put yourself in Joe Public's shoes for once. What would you be saying if it was the Tories in power and they had got us into this mess and were STILL blaming you lot?

So glad to hear that this plain stupid
silly daft nutcase of a woman has been arrested. For what she did to Mandleson wether you like him or not it was assault pure and simple and when she does appear in court I hope the judge hits her with a great dollop of porridge

"She shouldn't have been allowed to just walk away after committing an assault"

Quite. I look forward to you being arrested after having walked away yourself a few years ago.

And while we're on the topic. Your pal Lord Ahmed gets 12 weeks, which his supporters claim is "excessive". For killing someone. Never mind all of the similar cases recently where people have received much harsher penalties.

One rule for you and.....

John are you bonkers?! Whilst I did not agree with what she did (or what you did a few years ago with your first) this government connives and cons the people. We are treated like mugs and proper protest does not exist. I am a Labour supporter all my life but you and your colleagues have put everyone in this position. Tony Blair was no better a dictator than Stalin and all forms of expression are stamped on.

I could not agree more with you John.

This stupid act is just that and for those who think this is just a joke, it shows how out of touch with society you are.

It seems some protesters see to think its OK to cause physical harm to someone? They also seem to think that Democracy is only for them and that only their view matters.

There is a name for such standpoints its called dictatorship. There is not one justification for causing a person fear and alarm all for the sake of a cause.

She deliberately threw the paint in his face, not at his cloths but his face.

Did she bother to find out first the paints reaction to the skin, did she know that is was safe, or did the thought of it burning him or causing problems with his eyesight encouraging her more?

Madelson or anyone does not deserve such actions.

Plane stupid certainly has the right name. She is no hero to the green cause, instead she is a disgrace.

I believe in the right to protest, yet this action was not a protest is was a vicious physical assault. She is quite pathetic and has not helped her cause one bit.

But then the whole campaign has been one of stupidity, putting lives at risk by running onto runways shows how irresponsible they can be.

I consider myself an environmentalist, but not for one moment will I be supporting Plane Stupid. This reckless way of protesting has to stop.

Nobody deserves to be assaulted like this and your absolutely right to be outraged Mr Prescott. I will sidestep the cheap shot about what would have happened if she had been arrested (a fixed penalty fine?) and suggest though there are bigger issues here.

Amongst the environmental movement there is a belief that the rule of law does not apply to them, that somehow their belief in the rightness of their cause somehow elevates them above the need to use the democratic process. Who do they think they are?

I'm not sure arresting her would have done any good. The way the press is at the moment it wouldn't be a surprise if the story escalated beyond a sub-childish protest to a whole debate about civil liberties, freedoms and the right to protest (even though no one has the right to protest in such a way, as you said it could have been anything) and by arresting this idiot the Government is curtailing the right to protest.

I think in the current political climate, it was probably right for Lord Mandelson not to pursue it legally (assuming it was his choice).

This was a shocking attack on Peter Mandelson.
We should be worried about the lack of security that was in evidence today.

It was the act of somebody with a yob mentality.
Her dress sense was a disguise. I would expect she normally dresses as a hoodie.
I am worried that next time her assault will be with a more serious substance.

She is not interested in the parliamentary route to improve the environment.

'The way the press is at the moment it wouldn't be a surprise if the story escalated beyond a sub-childish protest to a whole debate about civil liberties'

and so it should!

the 'environmental movement' (as you put it) should stop at nothing to bring the issues to the forefront of every decision made.

Lucky for Leila she didn't go for Prezza - judging on past performance he'd probably hit her!

The media's demonisation of Peter Mandelson is the true villain here!!

No Peter did not deserve that. No one does for simply sticking to their beliefs. However lack of compassion and general lack of understanding of life from comments made in public as follows may do.

The UK's "money for nothing" culture must come to an end, shadow chancellor Conservative Osborne said.

When he has done some work himself 7 days a week and double shifts and reaches a point in his is life that the contribution he has made to society makes you feel 75 at the age of 60. Then refuses meagre benefits then I will agree with him.

He is in the prime of his life and later on in his life may regret the comments he has made.

Anyone who has worked hours above the legal permissable should be entitled to deduct it from the State normal retirement date and receive retirement benefits early rather than have to claim benefits Mr Osborne.

Cortonwood - aren't you forgetting something? If that's your issue now then surely it's Prezza and his mates that are to blame...or is it STILL Maggies fault after 12 YEARS of Labour?
