The Nationalised Express

Just got back into London from a very successful Local Government Association Conference in Harrogate on the new Nationalised Express.

I thoroughly enjoyed having a nationalised cup of tea and a nationalised bacon sandwich. And guess what? It arrived early into Kings Cross too.

Personally If we have to subsidise the railways, we might as well as have them in public hands than private ones. Privatisation was one of the biggest misakes the Tories ever committed when they were in power.

So welcome back to the public sector!

Anyway, I couldn't resist doing a vlog to mark the special occasion.

I hate to say this but weren't we promised a public owned railway by Labour in 1997? It's great to see the promise now honoured. Labour voters across the country are cheering. Why is only one line been re-nationalised.

If Labour is serious about a fourth term it needs to end it's unrequited love affair with the private sector, PFI and re-nationalise the railways. Let the cheers turn into a revival of grassroots support.

Unfortunately I fear that the East Coast Mainline will be sold off to the highest bidder before the next election.

Great to here your comments in regards to the National Express franchise.

It does beg the question, why, whilst you were the Deputy Prime Minister for some 10 years didn't you re-nationalise the whole industry?

Remember it John?

I still have my apprenticeship indentures and other qualifications and one of Mr. Balls type qualifications.

If you want me to train the new apprentices for the new Nationalised Clean Coal Plants let me know.

You can then retire because we will not need any seamen to bring the coal into the UK. :-)*

The Privatization of the rail network is the greatest obstacle to a comprehensive and workable integrated transport network that is worthy of this country.

Can anyone name a result of Thatcher's privatisation policy that has benefited the average person? Most have been swallowed up by multinationals and the competition, price cuts, and 'better' service has never materialised. Take public transport in South Yorkshire for example....it is now totally run by First with little if no competition and the costs of travel are outrageous in comparison to the old system.

Same with the building societies stolen with a little bribe of a cash incentive and few shares.

This was so the executives could award themselves company cars, better pensions, cheap mortgages paid to themselves instead of joe public getting the benefit.

The Simpletons were allowed to rule the roost and look what prevailed.
